Expert gear condition assessment of a 1.8 MW cement industry gearbox, identifying lubrication-related failures and providing root-cause analysis to protect heavy-duty assets.
We conducted a comprehensive on-site inspection and analysis of a Siemens SVNL 900 gearbox operating in the demanding cement industry. With a rated power of 1,850 kW and a high reduction ratio of 57.01:1, this parallel shaft unit is subject to extreme torques, where any gear surface degradation can lead to significant production losses.
Wikov specialists performed a detailed internal gear check and discovered damage caused by micropitting across the gear teeth. Our forensic analysis determined that this premature wear was a direct result of using low-quality or degraded lubrication oil, which failed to maintain a sufficient protective film under load. By identifying the root cause of the pitting, we provided the operator with critical insights into lubrication management and a strategic plan for gear restoration. This project highlights our ability to combine field diagnostics with expert material analysis, helping our customers avoid catastrophic mechanical failure through better asset care.
