Diagnosing lubrication failure and restoring critical components on a high-speed 25.8 MW gearbox.
Even robust equipment is vulnerable to lubrication issues. We performed an in-depth analysis of a Flender-Graffenstaden TX90/5 gearbox, a high-performance parallel shaft unit rated at 25,868 kW with an input speed of 7,547 rpm.
Our initial inspection revealed significant thermal damage, specifically burnt areas on gears and bearings caused by the use of degraded, low-quality oil. To restore the gearbox to full functionality, we moved beyond simple diagnostics to a comprehensive refurbishment. All compromised components were rigorously tested, and depending on their condition, were either replaced or precision re-ground. This intervention eliminated the damage caused by the lubrication failure and returned the asset to a reliable operational state.
