Detailed on-site inspection identifying critical bearing damage caused by stray electric currents, safeguarding the 6 MW asset against future failure.
Wikov Service executed a comprehensive on-site diagnostic mission for a Flender-Graffenstaden TX56/6C gearbox operating in a power generation plant in Slovakia. With a rated power of 6,000 kW and a high input speed of 9,978 rpm, ensuring the integrity of this parallel shaft unit is vital for the facility's continuous output.
Our specialists performed a detailed visual inspection and a meticulous examination of the gear teeth. The investigation revealed specific damage to the bearings and shaft journals consistent with stray electric currents—a subtle but destructive force in rotating machinery. By correctly identifying this root cause, we were able to advise the client to urgently verify and rectify their grounding and current-collecting systems. This level of diagnostic precision allows our clients to address systemic issues, preventing recurring failures and extending the asset's operational life.
