Full on-site inspection and restoration plan for a severely corroded 2,600 kW gearbox, involving housing replacement and complete internal component renewal.
We performed a critical on-site inspection and full-scale restoration assessment of a 2,600 kW Echesa Synchro Gearbox used in the demanding steel industry. Operating with a dual-input configuration (2x 1,300 kW), this parallel shaft unit had suffered severe environmental degradation, requiring a complete overhaul to return to service.
The inspection revealed extreme structural corrosion, with the gearbox housing showing material loss of up to 12 mm. Our engineers determined that a full housing replacement was necessary to ensure structural integrity. Furthermore, the internal components—including damaged gear teeth, power shafts, and bearings—as well as all fastening hardware (nuts and screws) were slated for total replacement. By identifying these critical failures early, Wikov provided a roadmap to transform a rusted, decommissioned asset back into a high-performance synchronous drive, ensuring continued production reliability for the steel mill.
